Court Leet
The building known as the “Court” is thought to have originally served as the parish church house before being used for leet courts. Its rear sections date from the 17th century, but the main structure was rebuilt in 1830 as four tenements in a traditional Tudor style, bearing the inscription “G. W. 1830” and the Latin phrase “Unless the Lord is with us we build in vain.” The work was carried out by mason Robert Cleaver, whose family gave their name to Cleaver’s Lane. By 1963, the building had become dilapidated, was purchased from the Rural District Council, and subsequently converted into a single house.
